SAIYAH

Indus Valley Civilization, contemporary to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, flourished along the Indus and its tributaries some 5000 years ago, with main cities of Mohenjodaro and Harappa. Many of the sites are yet to be excavated.

Gandhara had been the center of Buddhism from 4th Cent BC to 5th Cent AC. During this period Buddhist monasteries and stupas were built at Taxila, Swat and Peshawar attracting pilgrims from Central Asia, China and Tibet including Hiuen Tsiang and Fa hsien.

The Moghals occupied Indo-subcontinent during early 16 century and ruled for about 300 years with Delhi as Winter capital and Kabul their Summer capital. The founder of the Moghal dynasty, Babur fought his way from Ferghana through present day Afghanistan into India and his successors, Akbar, Jehangir, Shahjehan and Aurangzeb built several monuments, forts, mosques and tombs throughout their empire.

The high mountain passes between China and Indo-subcontinent had been a challenge to all the travelers, merchants and invaders, until the Korakurram Highway was built in the 1970s and gave way to the modern age trade activities between China and Pakistan. This part of the ancient Silk Route had seen the caravans laden with Silk coming from China and Spices going from India into China.
